The front mount heat exchanger is what keeps the S55's charge cooling system honest. On these cars the intake air is cooled by coolant, and that coolant has to shed its heat at the front of the car before it cycles back through. When the factory heat exchanger runs short on capacity, coolant temps climb, intake temps follow, and the car heat soaks. Of the two main S55 cooling upgrades, the heat exchanger is widely considered the more important, so if you only do one piece, start here. CSF replaces the OEM unit with a 2 row 42mm dual core running their B tube design and a dual pass layout, so coolant crosses the core twice and exits at the lowest possible temperature.
It fits the S55 powered F8X cars, covering the F80 M3, the F82 and F83 M4, and the F87 M2 Competition and CS, manual or automatic. Installation is a true drop in fit: it sits in the factory location, uses the OEM quick connect lines and mounting brackets, and works with the stock X brace and all the factory ducting. CSF includes a removable rock guard to protect the core up front and an aluminum drain plug for easier coolant service. This version is the polished finish.
On its own it is a real improvement for anyone who tracks the car or drives it hard in the heat, and paired with an upgraded charge air cooler it rounds out the full charge cooling circuit. For a platform that gives up power to heat soak as quickly as the F8X does, the heat exchanger is the highest leverage place to spend first.
